On the Fence; Remaking gardens as a new kind of social space

What possibly could be named New Zealand Architecture? What is our distinct style? Aren't our buildings becoming more monotonous, ridiculously white and feeling rather dislocated in its place?

This design thesis will speculate that architecture can be a catalyst to revitalise the city, people and identity through the re-design of the garden and fence.

Furthermore, the exploration looks into the importance of in-between spaces as a medium to evoke protentional spaces for activity.

As street edges and fences are being wasted and yards are filled with new construction, a porous landscape and history of agriculture in Māngere is reimagined as re-piecing the fabric of the suburb.

Architecture that touches, creating meeting points for education, sustainable markets, places of trade, exhibition spaces and community centres.

A porous landscape and history of agriculture in Māngere, re-imagined as re-piecing the fabric of the suburb. The architectural re-piecing is the facilitation of the garden, acting as the embodiment of living architecture, recreating the existing to create a pattern that can merge the past and present conditions of architecture into one continuous story.
